Hello there friends ! Im from the Hudson Valley, too.

There are two youtube videos describing similar phenomon, one in New Paltz and one news video in Allentown Pennsylvania area that same night of 9/19/09. This Allentown news video describes a strobe light too.

Google: "Unusual lights above the Shawangunk Ridge in New Paltz on youtube" on 9/19/09 and also google "UFO Nasa may have caused strange light in the sky by Black Bryant XII on youtube" .

Perhaps you can comment if this is what you saw?
